TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My goal as an educator in both art and computer science is to give students the opportunity to question their ways of seeing and understanding the world, and to develop uniquely creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Specifically in
art, my goal is to help them break free of insecurities and societal pressures that might make them feel like they need to be "perfect" or that they need to fit into a specific mold. Together, we dive into the many ways art affects our daily lives -- whether we like it or not! This reflection and exploration can open the door to professional interest in an artistic industry, and at the very least, encourages students to engage in much needed introspection, so they can evolve into autonomous young adults.

Regarding computer science, my goal is to help students examine the many ways technology has embedded itself into our lives.  Students become digitally ethical with invaluable problem-solving skills by exploring various concepts in tech. This includes history, personal relationships to tech, and a variety of software and programming languages. I strive to encourage creatives to learn practical skills, and the more "left-brained" to think creatively, so all can develop skills in innovation.

At the end of my time with a given population, my students become more deeply in touch with their sense of self and their relationships to all the ways that the subject matter affects their lives.
